Of Books and Such

You know how it is, when you're recommended a book or movie over and over again, because you would just loooooove it if you tried it, I promise, and then you do try it, and for whatever reason, you just don't love it like everyone was so sure that you would?

This seems to be happening with me and Good Omens, by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman. When a local(ish) Borders was closing and therefore reduced the prices of all of their books to get rid of them, I saw the book and thought, hey. everyone keeps recommending this book to you. you should buy it and read it finally, so that you can see what all the fuss is about. So I did. Only to find that I couldn't get through it. As I am typing this, I have started the book probably three or four times, and only gotten through about chapter 2. I think that it might be that it was recommended so much that I a) have expectations that are way too high, or b) subconsciously decided not to like it just to be perverse. Hopefully it is not b. Either way, I am determined. I will finish that book, and I will do my best to like it. I just don't know when. :)

All this rambling is just a long way to announce that I am going to start trying to do reviews of books that I am reading over the summer. It will probably be a not-so-great beginning, for I am dismal when it comes to both summarizing and reviewing. However! I fully intend to persevere and do my level best to get better at it. Practice makes perfect and all that rot. :)

At least I have material. So far, these are the books that I have read since school let out:

01. Princep's Fury - Jim Butcher - May
02. First Lord's Fury - Jim Butcher - May
03. Just After Sunset - Stephen King - May
04. The Dwelling - Susie Molony - May
05. The Taken - Sarah Pinborough - May
06. The Gift of Fear - Gavin deBecker - June
07. Sybil - Flora Rheta Schreiber - June
08. The Pawn - Steven James - June
09. The Rook - Steven James - June
10. The Knight - Steven James - June
11. The Bishop - Steven James - June
12. The Thief of Always - Clive Barker - June
13. Disquiet - Julia Leigh - June

So that should get me off to a good start. It's good practice for when I try to do the Cannonball read this year, right? Right.
